POST-IT EASEL CARD

I am so happy and honored to have been selected by the 'Frilly and Funkie Blog' team to be guest designer for the May Challenge.

The theme challenge is 'I love it because'.   How often do you create something just for you that makes your heart sing? Doesn't it feel great when you do! My challenge to you is to make a vintage or shabby chic piece of art, be it a journal page, a tag, a card, a home decor project etc, that fills you with happiness and makes you smile - don't forget to tell us why you love it so much.

I love giraffes!  They are just the most graceful and elegant animal I know of.  I found the giraffe image online.  Brought it into Photoshop Elements for sizing, recoloring and cutting out.  Tallest giraffe is about 4 1/2" x  1 1/2".

Instead of using a Post-it pad,  I designed a small matchbox.  It measures 2" x  3 1/4".  The tray slides out and a little monkey attached by an acrylic tab 'pops' out.  Inside are two more smaller open trays for storage of 'doo-dads'.

Most of the papers I used are scraps from Graphic 45's 'Olde Curiosity Shoppe'.  Animals  are from the internet.  Flowers are made using Tattered Florals die by Tim Holtz.  Leaves are from a die that is now retired.

CARD WITH BOX

I created this 'Card With Box' from a tutorial by Arlene Cuevas.  I used her instructions and measurements with one exception:  I wanted my card to measure  4" x  6".  You can find her tutorial  HERE.

Here is the card opened up.  Through the acetate cut out you can see box is filled with candy.  I used papers from Graphic 45's 'Kaleidoscope' collection.

Petals of flower on the front cover I made using Graphic 45's Flower Metal Dies.  Center is filled with tiny micro beads and topped off with a colored bead.

POP UP BOX CARD

Nobody can make just one!  I wanted to use up the 'Fred She Said' flowers.  Like the other card, it stands about 6 1/2" tall and is 8" wide with the flaps open.  The tutorial by Splitcoast Stampers can be found HERE.

MY CHESHIRE CAT

This 'Cheshire Cat' is my entry for the March Madness Challenge at Frilly and Funkie Blog.  The theme is Alice In Wonderland and we were to make a project with one of our favorite characters.  Challenge information can be found HERE.

I started with a section of a tree limb from the backyard.

I then attached it to a section cut out of a larger branch to make the base.

Then I just started attaching all the leaves and vines I cut from various floral and leaf dies.  The speech bubble reads:  I'm not crazy...my reality is just different than yours!

This is the image I started with for the cat.  I brought it into Photoshop Elements 18 and recolored it.

Close up of my Cheshire Cat hiding in the tree.  I used Wink of Stella on the teeth to make them glossy.

Here's the backside.  Completed project measures about 8 1/2" x  8 1/2".

APRON BOX - Tutorial

I created this 'Apron Box' using the Bigz XL Die from Sizzix.  It measures 4" x  5 1/4".  

Cookies in the pocket are double sided and mounted on toothpicks.

                        Begin by removing tabs from one of the bottom/side pieces as shown.

     Using score tape, adhere the newly trimmed portion of the side/bottom piece between the same tabs of the other.  Then flip entire piece over and lay on work surface.  Now the front surfaces are facing up.

     Adhere the long flat edges of the front and back Apron pieces to the tabs of the bottom.

     

                                          Using pattern templates, cut out Apron pieces.  

                                                       Adhere Apron pieces to box.

                                 Then fold box up.  All tabs will adhere on the inside of box.

Adhere pocket to front.  Put cookies inside pocket and stuff with recipe cards.  Add jute for handles and a bow for color.

WATERFALL FOLIO

     I created this 'Waterfall Folio' using papers from my stash.  Most of them are from 'Ole Curiosity Shoppe' from Graphic 45.  I chose an abstract design and added small flowers using an 'ek' flower punch.  The center beads are Perla beads that I melted down.

  

     The folio measures 4 1/2" x  8 1/2" with a 3/4" spine.  This is the inside.  The giraffe's are fussy cut from an image I found on the internet and mounted on cardstock.  The tutorial I used is by Ginger at 'My Sister's Scrapper' and can be found HERE.

      Here is the folio with the waterfall section opened up.  All patterned edges are burnished with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink by Tim Holtz.  The med sized tags are made with a die from Graphic 45.

ARTIST TRADING COINS

I created these 'Artist Trading Coins' for the March challenge at Frilly and Funky.  They measure 2 1/2" in diameter and about 1 1/2" tall.  Challenge can be found HERE.

'Love Nature' is made with scraps from my stash.  Punch is 2 1/2" scalloped punch by EK.  Bees are fussy cut clip art mounted on wires.  Flowers are made using TinyTattered Floral dies from Tim Holtz.  

I glued a piece of styrofoam onto base to get some height for the flowers.

Using the same base I mounted a rose made from Tattered Florals by Tim Holtz and added two small ceramic birds.
